The Sunflower, who blooms in heat, whose face named after the brightest star glows vibrant yellow, eyes never leaving its mother’s light. The sunflower is she who sheds in sadness only to grow, grow, grow again to something, someone beautiful, someone better than she was before. She is single-stemmed, independent and when born among sisters their strength remains unwavering. Count to 90 days then 100 and she, the Sunflower, emerges, bold blissful. No need to bow down at her feet for she will tower above regardless, no breeze strong enough to sway her. The secret to her green, her yellow, her gold is in each tangled root, each perfect, imperfect affirmation attributed to her rising. For from seed she grew, from water she drank, from sun she swallowed and kiss she learnt. She the Sunflower lets petals sprout around her yet needs no charm for passers-by to gaze. Why chase the admiration of another, a lover, the famous Aztec Sun, First Light, Willowleaf, for she the Sunflower will flower, will flourish.
